Fractional Fundraiser FAQ

  • It’s simple! Fractional fundraising means you get a fraction of a senior fundraiser’s time, and it’s a great alternative to hiring a full-time junior staff member. We start our work by creating a 12-month fundraising plan - then we implement it! You get the best of both worlds – a consultant who can provide expertise & strategy, as well as the “boots on the ground” work that’s normally carried out by staff.

The labour market is competitive right now – especially for qualified fundraisers. Fractional staffing is a powerful solution for non-profits who have tight budgets, but need expertise– Forbes even covered the trend.

  • As many as it takes to get the work done!

Here’s a novel approach – we don’t track hours. That’s right – we focus on deliverables and outcomes. Your flat monthly fee is a budget-friendly payment plan that reflects our total work done over the year, rather than any particular week or month.

We’re experienced and efficient and take on only the amount of clients we can handle. Our clients are delighted at the level of support they receive!

  • Usually, small to mid-sized organizations have limited budgets for staffing, which means they end up hiring someone junior without much fundraising strategy or experience. That person usually ends up spending a lot of time and energy on things that are not moving fundraising forward.

Instead, Fractional Fundraisers bring their expertise to the table - with a passion for implementation and “getting it done”. We know what will drive results, so we create the plan and make it happen! Our clients love this solution to help them grow strategically, and reach their full potential.

  • 1. It’s budget-friendly: for the cost of a junior employee’s salary, you get a fundraiser who has over 8 years of experience, with a proven track record and a passion for getting things done!

    2. It can help you avoid high staff turn-over: Often nonprofits with limited budgets are stuck in a vicious cycle. They hire junior staff, but don’t have the time or expertise to invest in their development. That fundraiser ends up feeling overwhelmed, unsupported, and leaves in their first year or two.

Instead, you can hire an expert fractional fundraiser, who will establish and grow your fundraising program until you’re ready to hire a full-time senior fundraiser.

    3. No managing or training staff is required. In fact, we provide you with fundraising expertise and guidance!

    4. Hiring staff comes with a lot of risk and expenses - imagine avoiding that risk while growing your fundraising program with an expert who’s accountable to getting the job done. Yes, you can have your cake and eat it too!

  • Yes! While we work on 12-month contracts, there’s always an option to renew. In fact, we often encourage it, as fundraising needs steady implementation over time to be truly successful.

The average length of time fractional fundraisers spend with clients is 3 years (much higher than the average 18-month tenure of fundraising staff members). Our ultimate goal is to grow your revenue so you can be in a place to hire a full-time senior fundraiser – and we can even help you with the hiring process when you get there.

  • If a fundraiser or fundraising consultant offers guaranteed results, RUN. That’s probably a sign they are doing something unethical. Fundraising success takes time and consistency. Your results depend on where you are starting and what your fundraising priorities are. Right now, most small organizations without fundraising support are seeing zero fundraising growth, while some of our clients are seeing 10% growth; 20% growth, or even higher!

  • Your donors are your donors. Just as you wouldn’t want us “taking” one of your donors to another charity, we won’t do so with another organization’s donors. We also abide strictly by the AFP Code of Ethics, which doesn’t allow for this practice.

The best place to grow your revenue is from your current supporters, donors, and subscribers – and we’ll help you do that!

  • Yes! If the past few years have taught us anything, it’s that remote work is as effective – if not more effective – than working from an office. Our remote set-up is partly how we work efficiently, and provide the results our clients are so pleased to receive.

If you are in BC’s Lower Mainland or Calgary, we would be pleased to visit your office.

  • A discovery call is a time to get to know you and your needs, and ensure we are the right fit. We’ll spend the first half asking questions about your fundraising to determine if our services are right for you.

We only work with non-profits that will genuinely benefit from our services, so if we don’t think we can help we’ll let you know, then do our best to point you in the right direction.

If we are a good fit, we’ll let you know that too, and figure out the next steps to form our partnership!
